F.O.C.U.S. : Jobs
(Farmworkers Overcoming Challenges Undermining Success)

CCFC has operated job skills and placement services with funding from the Workforce Investment Act (WIA) (Farmworker Jobs Education Program) under the supervision of the Florida Dept. of Education for more than 20 years. During this rich history, students ages 18 through senior adults have benefited from computer training, enrollment in classes to master English As A Second Language (ESOL), classes leading to credentials in child care, office skills, nursing assistants, security guards, truck drivers, and other fields.  Some students have received on-the-job training at CCFC which has led to employment in our agency.

We are pleased that Liliana Angarita, our Parent Support Specialist, who has worked for 8 years in our YouthPride Dept. came to us through F.O.C.U.S.:  Jobs. “Miss Lily” is often the first contact parents and children have when they are getting to know us.

CCFC has just introduced its F.O.C.U.S. : JOBS Club which offers resume-building, personalized jobs skills analysis, interviewing skills, “cold-calling”, finding jobs using search engines and much more.  Wayne Rogers and Diane Cantor work with each club member to develop a personal employment plan which will take her or him from where they are to where they want to be.

Bri, daughter of a farmworker and a talented young lady with drive, determination and office skills (mastered at CCFC), couldn’t find a job as an office assistant. She had no experience conducting a job search nor did she know how to move from a part-time fast food cashier job to a full-time position where she could develop her business skills. CCFC helped her prepare a resume, practice interviewing skills and build up her confidence. Now, in her full-time job, she is learning bookkeeping and has been entrusted with updating the company’s website.

Farmworkers or their dependents who wish to learn more about our free training, emergency assistance and job opportunities should call (305) 245-7738 Ext. 225 or e-mail focusjobs@ccfcfl.org
