46 Years of Major Accomplishments

images_Mural 21972 – Founded to achieve fair labor and living conditions for farmworkers

1973 – Intervened to obtain medical treatment for farmworkers in the South Dade Labor Camp when a typhoid epidemic broke out

1977 –  Built in South and Central Florida 500 safe and affordable homes for families of low-income at Heritage Village, Centro Villas, Hacienda West, and Florida City Villages and other communities

1978 – Advocated to establish the Everglades Labor Camp, the Coalition of Florida Farmworkers Organization (COFFO), and provided seed funding for M.U.J.E.R

1982 – Provided job skills training and placement to farmworkers and their dependents, and emergency rent and utility assistance

1987– Weatherized/ Rehabilitated approximately 6000 homes in Desoto, Hardee, Hendry, Highlands, Okeechobee, Charlotte, Glades, and Collier Counties to reduce energy consumption & costs for low-income families

1988 – Built and managed Biscayne Senior Housing providing affordable, supportive apartment living for Homestead area senior citizens

1990 – Helped more than 3,000 families become first-time homeowners

1992 – After Hurricane Andrew- Introduced free, recreational activities for children, which became our 21st Century Community Learning Center, providing 200 children ages 5-13 each year with after school tutorial & summer camp

1996 – Created Palm Villas Apartments, 91 units of safe, affordable apartments for low-income families in Florida City

2007 – Assisted 2,000 distressed homeowners facing South Florida’s foreclosure epidemic
