Ana Castilla, Board President
Ana Castilla is Vice President, Regional Community Development Regional Manager, Florida with TD Bank. She manages community relationships and supports regional market retail and commercial staff in developing and implementing responsive community development lending, service and investment to revitalize and stabilize low-and moderate-income neighborhoods and financial empowerment for individuals throughout the bank’s Florida footprint. Prior to joining TD Bank in 2014, Ana was the Regional Community Development Manager for the Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta at the Miami Branch. In that capacity she served as a commissioned bank examiner in addition to her community and economic development specialty. She has published several research papers and articles in addition to speaking both nationally and internationally on topics including concentrated poverty, remittances, community development finance, and financial empowerment. Born and raised in the Washington DC area, Ana has lived in Miami for 30 years and is fluent in Spanish. She is active in numerous community development and professional groups nationally and serves on the board of directors of South Florida Community Development Coalition, Miami Homes for All, Florida Community Loan Fund, Community Housing Partners, and is president of the board for Centro Campesino Farmworker Center. Ana has a Bachelor of Arts degree in Communication from Albertus Magnus College in New Haven, CT and an MBA from Florida International University.
Melanie Garman, Board Vice President
Melanie Garman joined SunTrust as Vice President and Community Development Manager in 2017. At SunTrust, Melanie leads the community development/CRA program for the South Florida region. She engages with non-profit organizations, local government, development corporations and other organizations to promote affordable housing, economic revitalization, small business development and community services. Melanie has 30 years of banking experience, serving in leadership positions in regulatory compliance and community reinvestment at financial institutions in South Florida. She also served as an adjunct instructor at Miami Dade College, teaching English and business classes for 12 years. Melanie graduated with a B.A. in English from Florida State University and earned her Lean Six Sigma Certifications from Florida International University. Melanie is also a Certified Anti-Money Laundering Specialist (CAMS). Melanie is a champion for helping people and organizations prosper and for creating pathways for financial stability. She serves as a board member of Centro Campesino; the Housing Opportunities Project for Excellence; and Broward Housing Solutions; and is a member of the Financial Stability Impact Council of the United Way of Miami-Dade and the Employment Committee of Chapman Partnership.
Marco Tejada, Board Treasurer
Marco has served on Centro Campesino Board of Directors since 2004 and currently is Treasurer and a member of the Nominating and Development Committees. His career in financial services spans over 27 years and includes corporate finance, investment banking, and wealth management. He started his career with JPMorgan Chase, where he spent 18 years and held various positions in corporate finance and investment banking in New York City and ultimately in the Private Bank in Miami. Since then he has held provided tailored advice regarding comprehensive financial needs, including investments, liquidity and credit management, insurance, tax and estate planning, and philanthropy to clients of SunTrust, Banco Popular de Puerto Rico, and most recently Wells Fargo. Marco is a chartered financial analyst (CFA) and is a director and past president of CFA Society of Miami, the local society for the CFA Institute. He also serves on the board of Voices for Children Foundation, Inc.
Thomas D. Dorsey, Board Secretary
Thomas D. Dorsey, AAI, who joined Centro Campesino’s Board in 2013, he has spent his career in the insurance industry. He owned and operated his own Independent Agency, Best-Dorsey Insurance until 2008, and is now a Risk Management Specialist with one of the largest privately-owned insurance agencies in the country, Insurance Office of America. He has served on the board of directors of the Florida Association of Insurance Agents, and is a past president of the Independent Insurance Agents of South Florida. Tom currently is a board member of FAIA Member Services. He is a life-time resident of Miami-Dade County, who attended the University of Florida and Florida International University.
Ed Duarte, CPA, Board Member
Ed Duarte, CPA, joined CCFC’s Board in 2012. In 2015 after 15 years in public accounting, Ed made an exciting transition to become the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) of Foreign Parts Distributors, Inc. (FPD) which provides premium brand quality auto parts. Since 1972, FPD has been a worldwide leader in the automotive aftermarket industry. Ed’s prior background includes audit, accounting, financial reporting and consulting services. He has experience serving both public (SEC) and privately held companies. Ed obtained his Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting and Finance from Florida International University and started his accounting career in New York City where he worked for over 5 years before returning to Miami.
Johnny Farias, Board Member
Johnny G. Farias currently serves as a Vice-Chair of Miami-Dade County Community Council of District 15, Subarea 154. He has been a licensed electrician for over 20 years and holds an A.S. in political science from Miami Dade College. Johnny served in the U.S. Navy as a Sonar Technician Third Class. He has been an active community member through many local organizations, such as Liga Ecuatoriana de Florida (member), NAACP (member), South Dade Democratic Black Caucus-Ron Brown Chapter (member), Shriners, Scottish Rite, and a Mason. He also sits on several EESAC Boards; Everglades Preparatory High School and McArthur Senior High. He was also a Guardian at Litem from 2006 to 2012 and a Girl Scout Leader for twelve years (1993 – 2006). Johnny was born in Guayaquil, Ecuador is a husband and father of five. He grew up in Brooklyn, New York and has lived in South Florida for over twenty seven years and is fluent in Spanish. Johnny G. Farias is seeking to serve the South Dade community as the next Miami-Dade County Commissioner District 9, August 18, 2020.
Carolyn Pates, Board Member
Carolyn Pates is a native of Homestead, Florida who attended the local schools and graduated with honors. Both her father and husband were in the military, which gave her the opportunities to travel to Europe. She became the first African American Fire and Police Communications Operator for the City of Miami. Her communications and dispatching skills allowed her to perform her duties in Homestead, Florida City, Hialeah, Miami Springs, Hialeah Gardens, El Portal, Miami Shores and Coral Gables. She retired in 1988, from the City of Miami Police Department. She was also a consultant with the Florida City and Opa-Locka Police Department. In 1985, she started her own business, Kate’s Katering Inc. dba Two Friends Restaurant, and by 2009, she was CEO and Founder of Carolyn Taylor Pates Enterprises, Inc. of South Dade Counties. Carolyn earned a degree in Secretarial of Science from Miami Dade Community College, she is a graduate of the Ocean Reef Club University, and she is scheduled to graduate from the USCM School of Theology from El Rey King Jesus International Ministries in May 2020. She is currently a Community Outreach Liaison for the King Jesus Homestead/Haitian Campuses. Carolyn recent accomplishments are from the Neighbor Works – Florida Community Leadership Institute, The Hospitality Institute’s Hospitality Employment Training in Hotel Property Specialist from Miami Dade College, Employ Miami-Dade Initiative (Work Readiness Training), a State of Florida Notary for over 40 years, and State of Florida Guest Service Professional Golden Opportunities American Hotel certification in Lodging Maintenance and Construction.
Enrique “Henry” Villaronga, Board Member
Henry is the Head of Residential Lending Operations at BAC Florida Bank, where he oversees all residential operations including LOS encompass integration, processing, underwriting, and closing. Over the years he has developed several in-house residential portfolio programs to include loans to Domestic borrowers; CRA and Low-to-Moderate income borrowers; and Non-Resident Alien borrowers. His career includes over 35 years of varied management experience in Banking and Residential Lending. Most recently he was at US Century Bank and TotalBank where he started its residential mortgage lending division which grew to approximately $100 million year over year. He also managed a residential portfolio of over $700 million at Ocean Bank, which included loan originations from a retail channel and wholesale network of mortgage brokers. He has been a Board member for Centro Campesino since June 2016, and also serves on their Governance and Finance Committee. He graduated from Miami-Dade College and earned his Associate in Arts degree in Business Administration
