My Home consist of various programs, the Weatherization Assistance Program (WAP) and the Wind Mitigation Retrofit Program. In addition, Centro Campesino is a nonprofit homebuilder and has built and sold 500 homes for farmworkers and other low-income families, and currently is in pre-development stages to build future family homes.
Weatherization Assistance Program:
The United States Department of Energy’s (DOE) Weatherization Assistance Program (WAP) was created in 1976, to assist low-income families whose unweatherized homes consumed high amounts of energy. They lack the resources to satisfy all of their basic living needs, much less address urgently needed repairs to their aging houses and mobile homes. Centro Campesino has weatherized/rehabilitated the homes of low-income families in Collier, Desoto, Hendry, Highlands, Glades, Okeechobee, Charlotte, and Hardee Counties for the last 25 years.
Retrofit Program:
Centro Campesino was selected as a 2018-2019 Wind Mitigation Retrofit Program provider/recipient. Through this grant, we can now perform mitigation retrofit improvements to approved structures in Florida City and Homestead free of charge.
Nonprofit Builder:
Centro Campesino is currently in the pre-development stage of building thirteen (13) units of permanent affordable family homes, 1200 square feet, 3/2 with a carport to serve first-time homebuyers for low-to-moderate income families, specifically farmworkers. This will comprise the final phase of Florida City Village.
